Public Transportation

Navigating around Boston's Innovation District and to points beyond the area is easy with accessible public transportation options. Offering a wide range of transportation options that vary in cost and availability, the Innovation District has successfully established an accessible neighborhood for commuters who would like the convenience of living in an innovative neighborhood while maintaining the option of working in downtown Boston or surrounding areas.

The water taxi service or commuter rail can be taken to transport residents to downtown Boston within about 10 minutes. People who would prefer to drive themselves without having to worry about owning a vehicle can try out the Zipcar® vehicles located throughout the district. MassDOT has also announced plans to expand public transport into the Innovation District to make it easier for residents to move around the city.

For residents who would like to travel outside of Boston without having to worry about using their own vehicles or renting a car, South Station is within walking distance of the Innovation District. The Amtrak hub offers daily train schedules that allow Innovation District residents to access major cities. A waiting area offers free Wi-Fi service, an ATM, restrooms and a lounge area for the comfort of travelers. Short- and long-term parking is available.

The South District features three main routes. The Northeast Regional route allows access to New York and Washington, D.C.. The Lake Shore Limited route includes stops in Albany and Chicago. The Acela Express stops in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
